Klamath Falls is approximately 275 miles SE of Portland and 430 miles North of San Francisco. Klamath Falls International Airport is serviced by the Horizon Airlines. There are bus lines and Amtrak services also available. Klamath Falls has two colleges. Oregon Institute of Technology, the only polytechnic Institute in the Pacific Northwest. OIT offers Bachelors and Associates degrees in Engineering Technologies, Health Technologies and Nursing, Bachelor degrees in Management Information Systems and Industrial Management, and associates degrees in Arts and Science, and boasts an amazing high job placement rating for graduates-one of the highest in the country. Over 2500 students are enrolled at the main campus in Klamath Falls with another 500 students attending the branch in Portland, Or. Klamath Community College was founded in 1996 and is currently building at a new site. Klamath County School District serves the residence at this ranch, Bonanza Elementary through High School. Klamath Falls provides good shopping services with Fred Meyers, Bi-Mart, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Emporium, Gottschalk's, and specialty stores. There are numerous financial institutions, restaurants, motels, first rate fair grounds with an event center, indoor arena and a calendar of events that provides entertainment for all. Merle West Medical Center provides good medical facilities. This hospital has approximately 200 beds, a Kidney Dialysis Center, Heart and Cancer Center, a new Birth Unit, and other amenities. There are also numerous other centers in the area with approximately 100 physicians and chiropractors. Arts and Culture are abundant here with the Ross Raglund Theater hosting various performers of musical genres from all around the world as well as touring and local plays. This theater seats 800 people and is very popular. A 30 year old theatrical group, the Linkville Players, produce four plays and a musical each year. The Klamath Chorale, Klamath Symphony, Klamath Art Association and many other cultural groups all have seasonal performances and shows throughout the year. This area is rich in tradition and local history which is celebrated in various events from Native American Pow Wows and Indian Rodeos, PRCA Rodeos, large 4H shows and various other shows and competitions. Klamath County offers outstanding recreational opportunities, particularly for the outdoor enthusiast. There are more than 82 lakes and streams, including upper Klamath Lake which covers 133 square miles. Fishing and hunting are popular sports with world class rivers available. There are hundreds of miles of cross country skiing, hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails leading deep into the forests, wetlands, wildlife refuges and desert. The Klamath Falls area has over 600 acres of developed parks, 5 golf courses, racquetball and tennis facilities, bowling alleys, roller skating rink, and a variety of health and exercise clubs. The weather in the area is typical of the high central Oregon plateau with elevations in the 4000 plus range. The summers are warm and dry with winters mild with moderate to low temperatures. Annual precipitation is about 13 inches with the possibility of snow remaining on the ground from mid November through mid April. The area averages approximately 39 inches of snow per year with a whopping 290 days of sunshine a year! |
